Tullyallen MCC Boyne 100 Road Races


Dates: Sept 20/21st 2008

Course: Old circuit around village, length 2.1 miles app triangle with 3 fairly fast straights, (course map to follow shortly).

Race direction: Clockwise right-hand in.

Races will be National Championship rounds.

History. This course was last used in 1965 and 1966 and run by the Dublin motor enthusiasts club, the inaugural event held on Sat 4th 1965 was a great success. Among the race winners were Dubliner Frank O’Reilly, Chris Goosen and Ken Harold. The fastest lap of the day was set by Frank O Reilly (250cc Bultaco) at 79.43 mph.

The second meeting took place on July 2nd 1966, and was a memorable for Brian Steenson’s first road race victory. The 19 year old Ulsterman from Killyleagh, Co. Down went on to become one of Irelands top racers for a short period in the late 60s.At Tullyallen in 1966 Steenson won the 10 lap Unlimited Handicap on a 650cc NORTON AT 72.50 MPH.

Another well known entrant in 1966 was Dromara destroyer Ray McCullough who also went on to bigger things.
